National Document Repository for Lloyd George records
The National Document Repository (NDR) is transforming how GP surgeries manage Lloyd George envelopes, which have been in use since 1911. These paper-based records, though no longer issued, still contain valuable medical history for many patients and are often stored in physical formats that take up space and are difficult to manage.
The NDR is a secure, centralised digital platform developed by NHS England that allows GP practices and Primary Care Support England (PCSE) to access, view, and download digitised Lloyd George records. It’s part of a broader initiative to modernise patient record management and reduce reliance on paper.
This service is free at the point of use. There is no charge to practices for using it once their records have been scanned.
Although the transfer of Lloyd George records to the NDR has only been completed in the Birmingham and Solihull ICB, as patients move from this area, their Lloyd George records will need to be accessed by their new GP.
If a patient record contains a note stating the paper record has been digitised, you can use the following link if/when you require access to the records: Access and store digital patient documents – Access and store digital patient documents
