Do we need cyber insurance?

NHS owned GP IT equipment is not required to be individually insured within the contents insurance of a GP. Cyber insurance for GPs is not included within the NHS provision of GP IT equipment.

Cyber insurance is not compulsory for GP practices.

One of the main drivers for acquiring cyber insurance is the desire to be insured against GDPR fines from regulators (such as ICO fines for data breaches). You cannot insure against regulator fines, though organisations may still receive help from cyber insurance. This is a subject that is considered in more detail in this article.
