- Blog about CDs We have added a new blog to our IG Portal about using CDs and CD readers in practice as we have received quite a few queries about them recently. Please remember that we should not be copying any patient information onto CDs at all and that N3i can loan out a CD reader should you need to read one on the odd occasion that you receive one with the record of a patient.
- Support Visits We are continuing our site support visits and have several more already booked in. As a reminder, these are informal visits from the IG Team to discuss general issues such as requests to access records and other such routine activity to ensure everyone is clear on the law and guidance. They are aimed at the Practice Manager and can also be attended by administration staff. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a visit.
- Revamped IG Portal Some of you may already have noticed that our IG Portal has had an update. It contains the same information (and looks flashier) but if you have any links downloaded, you may need to update them.
- Inappropriate Access to Records It needs highlighting again that accessing someone else’s medical records without a legitimate reason is illegal. We have had some recent incidents of staff members accessing the medical records of their children from work. Please share our fact sheet 19. Inappropriate Access – N3i Information Governance with staff. Each surgery should have policies and training in place to ensure that staff are aware that they are not allowed to view the records of family members (or other people they know) through work. Just because you can access them doesn’t mean you should.
