July 2024 update
This month’s update:
- We have scheduled a webinar for Thursday 25th July. Mostly to cover routine issues and discuss items that have come to us from practices but would welcome any suggestions for items we can address. An invite will be coming out later today, please feel free to pass this on to anyone else you’d like to attend.
- We are continuing to investigate the processes and policy relating to record keeping around adoption. There does seem to be some contradictory guidance out there between the various departments and organisations that are involved and we are trying to get something that all can agree to.
- NHS England have released a new training module on Subject Access Requests: NHSE elfh Hub For most GP Practices this will be a basic confirmation and revision of what they already do but it may be useful for new staff and as a way to review your processes.
- GP2GP is a vital part of the patient transfer and registration process. Please ensure that you follow the full GP2GP process and integrate all records within 8 working days.
- Please bear in mind that Solicitors have no right of access to anything, despite what their letters may say. All their authority comes from the rights that their clients may have given to them to act on their behalf.
Finally in recent weeks we have responded to a number of complex queries by coming out to a Practice and having a brief face to face meeting with relevant staff, usually the Practice Manager and Administration Team. Having hopefully resolved the question there is a good opportunity to just briefly go over a range of IG and DPO issues and importantly for us to get a better understanding of the problems you are facing so we can be sure our service is being responsive to what you need. And it’s so much better to meet you all in person rather than just on Teams. If anyone would like Barry and Sarah to call in for a visit please let us know. We aim to keep it brief and informal, anything from a twenty-minute chat over coffee, to an hour’s discussion during lunch is fine for us. If possible, where practices are located close, or part of a PCN, it may be helpful to have a joint session if you don’t mind sharing problems. Please get in touch if you are interested.
