Lloyd George digitisation
Published: 04/04/2024
For those of you who are considering whether to implement a project to digitalise your Lloyd George records, here are three documents that you may find useful.
The first is an update from July ’23 that we made you aware of last year, confirming that Lloyd George envelopes that have been scanned and electronically stored in line with national standards can now be securely destroyed.
The second is an extremely useful FAQ (last updated in November ’23) that, among many other things, advises ‘access to the digitalised version of the LG record should only be provided via a Subject Access Request (SAR) which has been submitted to the practice by the patients or a patient representative. Digitised LG records can be made ‘private’ and not visible to the patient by applying a filter within the clinical system’. It covers many other topics including preparation of records, records validation, upload/storage of records and destruction of records.
The third is a document (last updated in November ’23) whose purpose is ‘to provide guidance and share best practice for GPs in England to undertake the digitisation of LG records effectively’. It provides an outline for the entire project of digitisation – process, guidance and best practice.
