March 2024 update

  • Data Breaches. Thanks to all of you who attended the IG Webinar last week. At this stage I’m not putting the recording of it online as there is some development and changes to the Data Breach section which I want to be sure are fully accurate before I put them out. I expect to be issuing a specific factsheet on the subject in the near future but in the meantime if you have any queries please contact the IG Team direct on N3i.DPO@NHS.NET.
  • Medical Examiners. As we mentioned the system for MEs to review all patient deaths is now starting up in most areas. There are some differences of process in our region so please watch for guidance from your Primary Care team at the ICB.
  • Patient Registration: Following yet another incident which was caused by an error made during the registration process can I once again ask you to ensure your staff are fully aware of the correct process and the impact of making a mistake. And as a practice please consider signing up for this new process. Here is their Webinar from last month: Register with a GP surgery service – February update webinar – NHS Digital
  • Unauthorised Access. What do Sir Alex Ferguson and the Princess of Wales have in common? Both have now been subject to attempts by staff in hospitals where they were receiving treatment to access their medical records without authority. A good time to remind all staff that they must not access a persons record without a valid reason.
  • Finally please keep an eye on our IG Portal where we are adding new Factsheets on a regular basis.
